Races, Faces and Places – Durkalicious 2009 Part II

DSC_1065

The next rounds of the LOORRS series was in June in Lake Elsinore, CA.  The  humid 100+ degrees days made shooting miserable but its part of the job.

The hard work on hot days was rewarded with a trip to Monterey, CA for the Moto GP US Grand Prix.  These racers are very very impressive, the athleticism needed to throw the bikes around is amazing and must be seen in person to be believed.

Early in practice I shot the famed Corkscrew, the shot below was pure luck to get everyone lined up but I’ll take luck any day.  It reminds of a multiple exposure image as a rider enters the turn yet it is 5 different riders.

I wanted to get a Repsol rider with the singage and I nailed it here with Andrea Dovizioso in turn 10.

While in turn 11 I noticed the Red Bull signage which said Gives You Wings.  With a bit of cropping I was able to change to wording and come up with a very cool shot of race winner Dani Pedrosa in the closing laps of the race.

Due the excessive heat of the June race, LOORRS changed the July event to a night race to my delight.

There were some other photogs out there with lights and this frame caught one.  While it is obviously a mistake I liked the result.

At LOORRS round 9 and 10 in AZ the course was a photographers nightmare.  RVs, scissors lifts, and big inflatable shit everywhere to ruin backgrounds and shooting into harsh sunlight make it a tough weekend.  Here I slowed the shutter way down to blur the crap out of the background.
